The Hospital Thrift Shop Donates $110,000 to Nantucket Cottage Hospital

November 8, 2010

The Hospital Thrift Shop has done it again. After a very good season of selling gently used clothing, books, house wares, art and collectables, the Board of Trustees voted to make a $110,000 donation to Nantucket Cottage Hospital. Bruce Korson, President and Chairman of the Board, said this of the gift;

"Nantucket Cottage Hospital supports the medical needs of our community and the Hospital Thrift Shop has been here to support the needs of the Hospital, since 1929. The goal of the Thrift Shop is to provide yearly funding for the Hospital; we are pleased to be doing that again this year and to be providing such needed equipment."

The Hospital Thrift Shop was created in 1929 to support the Hospital. Through the years their annual donations have totaled more than $3M. Over the past eighty one years their generosity has supported everything from Emergency Department improvements to the Andrew Holdgate Fund.

This year the Thrift Shop Board voted to fund four urgently needed programs through gifts of a new Dialysis machine with water filtration system and training; a new Computer Radiography System for the Imaging Department; a new Steris 1E, Cool Sterilization System for the Operating Room and a donation to the Andrew Holdgate Fund for travel assistance for seriously ill children.

Dr. Margot Hartmann, President and CEO of the Hospital, said this of this year’s gift:

"More than ever the Hospital appreciates the steadfast support of the Thrift Shop and all of their volunteers who make a statement about the value of the Hospital just by doing what they do, all season long. Thank you."

Nantucket Cottage Hospital would like to thank the Hospital Thrift Shop, all of their volunteers and all of the members of our community who patronized the Thrift Shop this year - you have all made this wonderful gift possible.
