Admission and Registration
All patients who visit the hospital for laboratory tests or diagnostic and imaging services must first register with one of our admitting and registration offices. Because we are an affiliate of Massachusetts General Hospital and Partners HealthCare, you must have a Mass General Hospital Medical Record Number before receiving any of our services. If you don’t already have one, you may register ahead of time by calling 866-211-6588.
Most patients arriving for laboratory tests and diagnostic evaluations should enter through the hospital’s main front door. Immediately to your right, a Blue Coat volunteer or other staff will guide you to the nearby registration admitting office. Our “Living Room” waiting area welcomes you immediately across from the registration office; our laboratory waiting room is just around the corner.
If you are getting an X-ray, CT scan, MRI, breast scan or other imaging services, you will check in at the Imaging Services Department, located in the hallway across from our laboratory. Emergency Room patients will be registered in the ER.
If you are visiting one of our specialty physicians or clinics, you will check in at their offices located in the hallway at the southwest corner of the hospital, around to the left from our main reception desk. A volunteer or staff member will gladly help you with directions, or signs will direct you to the appropriate location.
Our registration and admissions offices coordinate patient registration and insurance authorization, based on orders received from your physician. These offices also provide patient information and referrals to our Social Services Department for help with enrollment in Mass Health and other insurance programs. Medicare patients may be asked to complete additional forms required by the federal government.
